Oando mourns as chief legal officer loses battle to cancer



The Chief Legal Officer of Oando Plc, Ngozi Okonkwo is dead.

Group Chief Executive Officer of Oando Plc, Adewale Tinubu, announced this via a tweet on Friday.

He wrote, “Here today, gone tomorrow.”

“A wonderful soul who was ready for any goal oriented endeavour. She was knowledge, efficiency, competence, diligence and true leadership…

“She was what we all hope for in a team member.

“She was empathy, loyalty, support and trust..”

Writing further, Tinubu said Okonkwo toiled for 11 years to ensure the dreams of the organization becomes a reality and did that with a full dose of optimism every day, despite the odds.

“She was excellence,” he wrote.

Okonkwo joined Oando as Head, Legal Services in 2009.

One of her nephews in a tweet said the Oando legal officer battled cancer for a while, recovered before having a relapse during the recent COVID-19 crisis.

Before joining Oando, she worked as Junior Counsel with F.O Akinrele & Co., and also with KPMG Professional Services (previously known as Arthur Andersen) as Manager in the Tax, Regulatory and People Services unit and Head of indirect tax services.

She obtained LLB (Hons) from University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1997 and BL from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1999.

She was a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, honorary fellow of the Association of Fellows and Legal scholars of the centre for International Legal Studies, Austria, Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom and Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Nigeria.

“My prayers remain with her family who lost a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and sister,” Tinubu said.
