The Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority has inaugurated an 11-man member emergency response team at it’s corporate headquarters, Marina, Lagos.
According to a statement signed by the General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, NPA, Adams Jatto, the team would ensure a strategic and immediate rapid response in case of emergencies at the agency’s headquarters and the port locations.
Speaking during the occasion, the Managing Director, NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman, represented by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, NPA, Hon. Onari Brown, appealed to members to be ready to put themselves at the frontline of emergency response at the Marina headquarters at all times.
She stressed that every head of departments was a constituent part of the emergency response team, adding that they had specific roles to play during the emergency. She therefore charged respective officers to have sense of responsibility to duty and ensure effective collaborations at such delicate periods.
According to the NPA MD, two teams shall be constituted at the Port levels alongside the Port Emergency Management Team (PEMT) and the Port Emergency Response Team (PERT), adding that details of their membership and mode of operation shall be duly communicated to all the port locations.
“These committee is expected to among other things respond proactively during work place emergencies covering fire, explosion incidents, medical emergencies (like Ebola, Lassa fever, Covid-19 etc.), public safety threat, armed robbery and terrorism threat, marine vessel collision in the Port, accidental release of hazardous substances and natural disasters like flood or storm,” the statement read in part.
